Start with habits, not with scent
The best morning routine is the one you actually do. Before you reach for oils, settle three things: when you get up, what you do in the first 10 minutes and where your phone is. Scent only completes the picture.
A 10-minute routine
- Light: open the curtains or stand by a window. Natural light helps mark the start of the day.
- Water: a glass of plain water — with no oils added.
- Movement: 3–5 minutes of stretching or walking around the home.
- Scent: run a diffuser with 3–4 drops of a light citrus oil.
- One intention: name in a single sentence what matters most today.
Which scents suit a morning
- Wild Orange — a sweet, optimistic citrus.
- Lemon — a clean, “fresh” scent; remember it is phototoxic, so don't put it on skin before going out in the sun.
- Peppermint — strong and refreshing; 1–2 drops in a diffuser or a breath from cupped hands is enough.
What to avoid
- Drinking oils in water. The Tisserand Institute explicitly advises against taking essential oils by mouth without a qualified practitioner, and against adding them to water.
- Strong scents in the kitchen around small children.
- Changing too much at once — add one habit at a time.
