Why we don't give amounts
Fees, kits and ordering terms vary by country and change over time. Quoting a figure today could mislead you tomorrow. Instead, below is a list of cost categories and questions to ask before you decide.
What to count
| Category | What to check |
|---|---|
| Registration / membership | the amount, whether it recurs, what it includes |
| Starter kit | whether it is required, what it contains, whether you will actually use those products |
| Monthly orders | whether they are required to receive discounts, bonuses or commissions, and the minimum amount |
| Shipping and taxes | delivery cost to your country, VAT, any customs |
| Tools | diffuser, samples, materials — buy only what you really need |
| Time | how many hours a week you can realistically give |
| Formalities | business registration, accounting, income tax in your country |
| Returns | the returns policy and deadlines |
A simple way to calculate
Net income = margin on sales + any bonuses/commissions − the cost of your own orders − fees − taxes − tools. Only after subtracting everything can you see whether it makes financial sense. Enter your own numbers, not numbers from someone else's story.
What to avoid
- Buying more than you will use or resell just to “stay active”. The FTC lists this among its warning signs.
- Deciding under time pressure (“the offer ends today”).
- Going into debt to start.
Questions to ask in writing
- What are all the fees and when are they paid?
- Are any purchases compulsory to keep my status or commissions?
- What is the returns policy for products and start-up costs?
- Which documents (compensation plan, income disclosure) apply in my country?
